WEEK-3 HOMEWORK

This week we discussed perspective and how to apply it to your image. We spent the class working on our perspective and finalizing our compositions in black white and grey.

Our homework is to create a finalized drawing of our image with all the necessary details and proper perspective. This means working out your perspective on one layer (perhaps with red) and then creating another layer on top of that to work out the detailed drawing. And remember not to draw for flourish, but rather to understand the 3 dimensionality of all the elements in your scene.

- Make sure your final image is 3000 pixels wide
- Don't forget to check your 3 reference images OFTEN for detail information
- Be EXACT in your perspective, especially off in the distance where a small mistakes can ruin the feeling of perspective.
- Have fun! don't forget to tell a story and remember what is AWSOME about your creature and image... and then make it more awesome.

WEEK-2 HOMEWORK

6 thumbnail sketches using the same technique as last week, but not the same quality. I expect all the sketches to be separated into 3 clear values and the edges to be nicely worked out. Each composition has to be strong include the character and have a clear focal point.

I also want to see 3 AMAZING pictures of your environment arranged in a row in one jpeg file.

WEEK-1

We made two lists of what we found AWESOME and broke the class into 4 teams, each team picking an AWESOME environment and AWESOME mythological beast. For the next 6 weeks each individual will be graded on their homework but each week will also have a winning team for each assignment. We spent a good amount of time researching the various locals and collecting photos which are the key to creating a believable scene. We also discussed how hard each student wants to be graded on a scale of 1-10, and be warned "10's" you will cry by week 6:)

I gave a handout from a book called Composition of Outdoor Painting by Edgar Payne and talked about composition types and we worked for a bit creating compositions using only black and grey.

HOMEWORK - 10 thumbnail sketches of your character in an environment using ONLY black, grey and white. Create a 3000 x 2000 pixel file, put a slim black border on it, and do 4 sketches per page. Make sure the shot is EPIC and features your chosen character.

PLEASE BRING - A thumb drive to the next class if you get this in time:)

WEEK-1: homework sample

Do NOT use more than one dark grey, one light grey and the background color. Focus on getting interesting shapes and compositions using Edgar Payne's compositions styles as a guide. If you get stuck (which I do all the time) go back and find some awesome photo reference. Your reference is your inspiration.
